But the saddest part is, this film was made in 1980! And my dear, kuttichathan 3D was released as fantasy years before the Avatar of 2009 which grossed over $2.8 billion globally. I am not sure if that was an intentional move or if it was just pure luck, but it certainly does not inspire confidence in this film.
S.S Rajamouli, the director of Maharaanayudu, has stated that the film was shot in 2D format - and that it was not a 3D film. What a disappointment! The producers of My Dear Kuttichathan were also the producers of Sadma! It seems that there is a double standard also in views of a film that India can produce - and a film that we should be proud of.
So, back to the film - It is very interesting how even brands of caps differ for 3D glasses. In the Hindi version of the film, it had “C-tech”, while the Tamil version had “Technicolor” printed. I am sure that technology is not the only thing that changed - the same producer of the Hindi version Navodaya Appachan also owned Technicolor and most likely distributed it. One of the main characters of the film was named Kuttichathan - which was the Tamil version of Chetan. I am sure that Chennai was the most prominent export hub of the film and certainly people would know who Chetan was. It would probably be the same case with the Hindi version of Chhota Chetan - where the movie’s title probably also had to do with Kuttichathan. Hindi did a wonderful job dubbing Tamil and in the process, released it as My Dear Kuttichathan. But the name simply made no sense - especially since Kuttichathan is from Tamil and not Hindi. It was also expensive to project the Hindi version of the film in 3D, as it required a lot of resources and hence the robbers who are famous for robbing cash-filled banks often demand a lump sum from the movie producers. And 3D films were usually released at a time period where bank robberies were at their peak. 7211a4ac4a
